Best Metal Guitarist

In a recent post 'Slayer / Megadeth Concert', I referred to the new book from Jole Mciver titled, 'The 100 Greatest Metal Guitarists'... and that got me thinking.

He feels Dave Mustaine is the best shredder out there. Joel Mciver has certainly opened a can of worms with his picks and by making such a ballsy statement. Mind you, Joel does know his stuff. He's written several metal books and biography's and is a working journalist. Yes it's one man's opinion and it's somewhat subjective.

I say, we make up our own list. I'll just pick six guitarists (from today's mainstream / big name heavy metal bands). Not that they're the best, because no one will ever be the best (way too many egos and opinions out there). We'll make our own poll to find out what those in 'Motorheadster Nation' have to say. In this poll we'll just use clips from YouTube and our own biases about our favourites to help us make our decisions.

First up, Kerry King - Slayer (he was just in town so I'll give him the honours).

(Joel with Kerry King and Slipknot's Mick Thompson)

Next, Dimebag Darrel - Pantera

(rest in peace)

Now, Dave Mustaine - Megadeth

(Joel Mciver & Dave Mustaine)

Our next player, Kirk Hammett - Metallica

(Kirk & Joel)

What about James Hetfield?

I also like Zakk Wylde - Black Label Society

And finally I've chosen Chris Broderick.

That's it... ya, ya I could've mentioned others like: Dave Murray, Adrian Smith, Jay Fernandez, Don Gates, Jeff Loomis, Steve Vai, Yngwie Malmsteen, Randy Rhoads, Jeff Waters, Tony Iommi, Trey Azagthoth, Kai Hansen, Glen Tipton, KK Downing, Jeff Hanneman, Karl Sanders, James Murphy, Trey Azagthoth. I only have room for so many choices on our web poll dudes!

Anyway... (you done complaining now) I'll wrap things up with a video that was put on YouTube in February, and I thought it would be a great way to end this post.

(Lemmy with Joel)

New world... meets old school, student.... meets master. James Hetfield and Lemmy on the same stage. James joins Motorhead for their encore during a show in San Fransisco.

Now make sure you vote. It's all about the metal \M/!
